Yes, FluidSynth executable and library is there. But I don't know if FluidSynth would be feasible for usage even after that, but at least it would be worthwhile to test. I believe one could configure FluidSynth so that it uses less CPU time (decrease mixing rate, reduce / disable reverb / chorus etc.). So, either I'm totally lost, about how it should be done, or it is not running out of the box and requires some configuration from the user - or at least the ability to run it under screen or something.

But DOSBox can't do that (I think I saw an experimental patch for DOSBox to use a library somewhere, but it is not in the released version). The other alternative for an application using FluidSynth, would be for the application to run Fluidsynth itself or use a FluidSynth library or something - I don't know the details. I haven't looked at the GCW Zeros audio parts, so I don't know how it would work there.

On PC/Linux, the move to dmix in ALSA and / or some sound daemon - depending in distribution - simplified things (on Windows I believe this issue is not there on most configs). Even then, there could be mixing issues, as both FluidSynth and dosbox will need an audio output device. After FluidSynth is running, then the right alsa midiport would be needed to configured in nf.

I believe this is needed (at least that's what I do on a PC with Timidity). Quote from: Wild Penguin on April 05, 2014, 04:00:15 pm Hi Bionicfemme,Ĭode: opendingux:/etc # ps | grep -i fluidĪlso, I can't find any config file to run FluidSynth as a alsamidi daemon (at least not under /etc). If you are not familiar with using a command prompt and manipulating files, just stick to the FM synthesis. This is what I use currently (on PC / GCW Zero) for games that support it. The setup process may not be simple if you are not familiar with command line usage and file manipulations - but definately easier than the above choices are currently. That way you can get superior music - provided the game you are running supports / suppoerted GUS originally (or a patch was made for the support later on).

(maybe in a future firmware, there's a Midi synthesizer running already on the background, to which DosBOX and / or other software can connect to, if configured properly).Ĥ) GUS Support: There are tutorials on the DOSBox Forums and elsewhere on the net, on how to setup a ULTRASND dir with the Gravis Ultrasound files, google for it.

I'm not even sure the RootFS comes with any Soundfont for fluidsynth to use. The RootFS does come with FluidSynth, which could give some music, but it is not running out of the box. Also, the current MUNT focuses on accuracy, and it is very CPU intensive, which makes it unusable on the GCW Zero (I've tried).ģ) About GM / MPU-401: There's no Midi Synthesizer running on the GCW Zero out of the box, that GM / MPU-401 could be relayed to. However, distributing a usable DosBOX with MUNT is not perfectly legal (as it would require the MT32 / CM32L ROMs to be distributed). Keep in mind that also the game you're running in DosBOX will limit what choices you can use for a particular game (it depends on what it supported originally).Ģ) About MUNT / MT-32: I've actually re-compiled DosBOX with MUNT support for my personal usage.
